FACELIFT RECOVERY

12-Month
Honest Diary

No "back to normal in 2 weeks" marketing claims. Day-by-day, phase-by-phase reality from Etonne's surgeons.

Quick Answer

Facelift recovery is 12 months to final result, not 2 weeks. Phase 1 (Days 1–7) acute; Phase 2 (Days 8–14) resolution, fly-home window; Phase 3 (Days 15–30) subacute; Phase 4 (Months 1–3) settling; Phase 5 (Months 6–12) final result. Surgeon-led 1-week post-op follow-up.

Why This Page Exists

Most clinic websites understate facelift recovery dramatically. "Back to normal in 2 weeks" is a marketing claim, not a clinical reality. International patients who plan their travel based on this claim arrive home swollen, bruised, and disappointed at week 2 — and frequently panic at the appearance of their face during the most variable phase of healing.

This page documents the honest recovery timeline for Etonne facelift procedures. The same 12-month pattern applies to all variants — with shorter durations for less invasive techniques (mini facelift, ponytail lift) and longer for extensive surgery (extended deep plane).

PHASE 1

Days 1–7 — Acute Recovery

Day 1

Bandage on the head; you will not see your face yet. Discharge afternoon. Mild to moderate pain controlled by oral analgesics.

Days 2–3

Bandage removed. First view of face. Significant swelling and bruising — purple-blue at peak. Eyes may be partially swollen shut. Cold compresses every 2 hours.

Days 4–5

Swelling visibly improves. Bruising fades from purple to greenish-yellow. Light, soft food. Walking encouraged. No exercise.

Days 6–7

Stitches removed at clinic. Hair washing comfortable. Most patients are presentable for a quick walk in Gangnam at dusk wearing a hat — but not for any meaningful social interaction.

Etonne's role: 1-week post-op follow-up by the operating surgeon (Promise 6) — in person at the clinic, or via online video when travel makes that impractical. Operative report in English finalized within 7 days.

PHASE 2

Days 8–14 — Resolution Phase

Days 8–10

Bruising fades meaningfully. Yellow tint in cheek and neck region. Swelling drops by another 30–40%. Light makeup acceptable from day 10.

Days 11–14

Most patients now look "presentable" by Western standards — close inspection still reveals tightness, mild residual bruising, and slight numbness. Many international patients fly home in this window (typically days 10–14).

Pressurized cabin air during the return flight is well tolerated at days 10–14.

PHASE 3

Days 15–30 — Subacute Phase

Tissue remodeling. Collagen reorganization at the SMAS plication or deep plane fixation. Sensory nerve fibers continuing to grow back, producing intermittent tingling and itching.

Around 70–80% of swelling resolved. Most patients photograph well in good lighting. Heavy exercise still avoided. The lift is now visible. The face looks rested rather than altered.

What you will NOT yet see: The face will continue to soften over the next 6–12 months. The week-4 appearance is not the final result.

PHASES 4 & 5

Months 1–3 and 6–12 — Final Result

Months 1–3

80–90% of swelling resolved. The face looks "normal" to friends and acquaintances. Strenuous exercise resumes from week 6.

Numbness around the ear persists. Tingling and itching as nerves regrow. Normal.

Months 6–12

The face has fully softened. The "operated" feel of months 2–3 is gone. Scar in front of the ear is barely detectable on close inspection.

Most patients say the month-12 appearance is meaningfully better than month-3 — softer, more natural, more rested.

"It looks like me. Just rested. Better than I'd hoped."
— Etonne patient at month 12
