Quick Answer

A ponytail lift is an endoscopic vertical-oblique lift via short hidden temple incisions. Etonne's signature Faberge vector technique elevates the upper face, brow tail, and outer cheek without a full facelift. Recovery: 5–7 days social. Best for late 30s through mid 40s. Lasts 5–8 years.

What Is a Ponytail Lift?

The ponytail lift is a minimally invasive facial rejuvenation procedure that elevates the upper face, brow tail, and outer cheek along a vertical-oblique vector — producing the lifted, refreshed appearance of hair pulled into a high ponytail. It is performed through short hidden incisions in the temple area, without the longer pre-auricular and post-auricular incisions of a full facelift.

At Etonne Plastic Surgery in Gangnam, the ponytail lift is performed using our signature Faberge vector technique — a refined vertical-oblique lifting trajectory designed for precision and natural-looking elevation.

SIGNATURE

The Faberge Vector

The lifting trajectory we use for ponytail lift, mid-face lift, and the upper portion of our deep plane facelift. Named for the precise diagonal facets of a Fabergé egg — each cut placed at the exact angle that catches light correctly.

Vertical-oblique trajectory

The lifting tension moves upward and slightly outward, parallel to the temporal hairline rather than horizontally across the face.

Minimal SMAS dissection

The lift is achieved through deep periosteal fixation, not extensive tissue undermining. Less trauma, faster recovery.

No pulled appearance

Because the vector follows existing anatomical lines, the face does not look "lifted." It looks rested and structurally restored.

Refined, jewel-like elevation

The boutique counterpart to the more aggressive vertical-vector techniques marketed at high-volume facelift clinics.

Faberge vector vs. vertical vector: the underlying anatomical trajectory is the same. What differs is precision and refinement — Etonne's small surgical schedule and 4-surgeon team allow for the millimeter-level customization that volume-driven clinics cannot match.

HAIRLINE PRESERVATION

Where We Place the Incisions

The most legitimate concern about ponytail lift is hairline shift — the temple hairline can move backward by several millimeters if the incision is poorly planned. Etonne's protocol prevents this:

  1. 01In-hairline incision (not pre-trichial). Placed inside the hairline, not in front of it. Hair grows through the scar, hiding it completely.
  2. 02Hair-follicle preservation — the scalpel angle preserves the follicles immediately along the incision, so hair regrows through the closure line.
  3. 03No bulk skin removal at the temple. The lifting is achieved by deep periosteal fixation, not by excising temple skin (which is what causes hairline shift).
  4. 04Sideburn anchored separately when needed, so the natural sideburn position is preserved.

Result: minimal to no visible hairline shift. Patients can wear their hair pulled back, in a high ponytail, or any updo without revealing the surgery.

FAQ

Ponytail Lift FAQ

Is the ponytail lift the same as a temporal lift?

Yes — they describe the same procedure. "Ponytail lift" is the patient-popular brand name; "temporal lift" is the anatomical term. Etonne uses both terms interchangeably and adds our Faberge vector signature for the precise lifting trajectory.

Will my hairline shift backward after a ponytail lift?

Not with our protocol. Etonne uses an in-hairline incision (not pre-trichial) with hair-follicle preservation technique. The lift is achieved by deep periosteal fixation rather than skin excision, so the temple hairline does not retreat.

How long does a ponytail lift last?

Typically 5–8 years. Skin quality, weight stability, and sun exposure affect longevity. Patients in their late 30s often choose ponytail lift as the first stage of long-term anti-aging, followed by full facelift in their late 40s or 50s.

Will the surgeon I consult with perform my entire surgery?

Yes. The surgeon you meet during consultation performs your full operation. A board-certified anesthesiologist (Dr. Jung Eunjin) is present for every general anesthesia case. You receive an operative report in English within 7 days of surgery.

How much does a ponytail lift cost in Seoul?

At Etonne, ponytail lift pricing is published transparently with no markup for international patients. Etonne does not work through third-party medical-tourism concierges. Final quotes are issued after consultation.

Is ponytail lift a marketing term, or a real surgical procedure?

It is a real procedure. The term was popularized by Dr. Chia Chi Kao. The underlying surgery — endoscopic vertical-oblique lifting via temple incisions — is well established in the plastic surgery literature. At Etonne, we perform it as a Faberge vector lift.
