A brow lift is a surgery that raises the position of drooping brows and the forehead. At ETONNE in Gangnam, Seoul, it is done endoscopically: a small incision, just large enough for the endoscope, is made inside the hairline, and the surgeon works while viewing beneath the skin. About 60 minutes under sleep anesthesia, same-day discharge, stitches out at about 5–7 days.
Eyes that look heavy and tired are not always an eyelid problem. When the brows descend with age, the distance between the eyes and the brows narrows, the upper eyelid skin is pushed down onto the lashes, and lines deepen across the forehead, between the brows, and over the bridge of the nose. Removing eyelid skin alone does not correct that; the brow has to go back up.
The endoscopic brow lift does this through an incision inside the hairline that is only as large as the endoscope needs. Because the whole area beneath the skin is viewed in real time during surgery, the surgeon works to reduce damage to the surgical site and finds the proportion between the brows and the lashes at which the eyes look most natural.
At ETONNE (Gangnam-daero, by Nonhyeon Station), the surgery is performed by board-certified plastic surgeons Dr. Cho Jeongmok, Dr. Kim Harkyoung, Dr. Kim Jaegon, and Dr. Koo Heetae. The surgeon you consult with performs your operation from start to finish.
CANDIDATES
When drooping brows make the space between the eyes and the brows look narrow.
When sagging upper eyelids, together with drooping brows, make the eyes look heavy. An upper blepharoplasty may be planned alongside after examination.
When wrinkles on the forehead, between the brows, and across the bridge of the nose are a concern — often because the forehead is being used to hold the brows up.
Forehead reduction lowers the hairline to shorten a tall forehead. The brow lift raises the brows and forehead. Depending on the diagnosis the two are sometimes planned together.
THE SURGERY
PRICING
The surgical fee depends on the plan made at consultation — a brow lift alone, or combined with upper blepharoplasty or forehead reduction — and on the anesthesia used. For that reason we do not publish a figure here; you receive an individual quote after the consultation. International patients book directly with the clinic.
Send a few photos — a front view with a relaxed forehead helps — and your questions; the coordinator replies in English and arranges a consultation with the surgeon. For how to plan a surgery trip to Seoul, see International Patients.
RECOVERY
Surgery day
About 60 minutes of surgery under sleep anesthesia. You go back to your hotel the same day.
Day 1
Shampooing is possible from the day after surgery. Swelling and bruising around the forehead and eyes are expected in the first days.
Days 5–7
Stitches come out and your surgeon checks your recovery — about one follow-up visit is needed. Your travel schedule is arranged with the coordinator when you book.
Back home
The forehead and scalp may feel numb for a while, and the hair around the incision line may be temporarily thinner. How long swelling and bruising take to subside varies from person to person.
BEFORE YOU DECIDE
Swelling and bruising may occur after surgery, and how long they take to subside varies from person to person. The incision leaves a scar, and in rare cases bleeding, infection, inflammation, or left–right asymmetry may occur, which may require additional treatment. Because a brow lift involves an incision in the scalp, the forehead and scalp may feel numb for a while, and the hair around the incision line may become temporarily thinner.
Please tell us at your pre-surgery consultation about any medications you take, including blood thinners such as anticoagulants, as well as any medical conditions and whether you smoke. During recovery, please avoid alcohol and smoking and attend follow-up visits as scheduled.
Please make your decision after you have been fully informed of the risks and of alternative options. Results and recovery vary from person to person.
FAQ
At ETONNE the brow lift is an endoscopic surgery that lifts the brows and the forehead together, so it is also called an endoscopic forehead lift. It is a different surgery from forehead reduction, which lowers the hairline to reduce the height of the forehead; the two are sometimes planned together depending on the diagnosis.
A brow lift raises the position of drooping brows and the forehead, while upper blepharoplasty directly removes sagging skin and fat from the upper eyelids. We examine whether heavy-looking eyes are caused by drooping brows or by sagging eyelids before deciding on the surgery.
A small incision, just large enough for the endoscope, is made inside the hairline, so the incision line lies within the hair. How the scar settles varies with the condition of the skin and hair.
The surgery takes about 60 minutes under sleep anesthesia, and you go home the same day without hospitalization. Shampooing is possible the day after surgery, stitches are removed after about 5–7 days, and about one follow-up visit is needed. How long swelling and bruising take to subside varies from person to person.
